About Us

Ascend is a  warm and friendly dance school in the heart of Dundee’s west end.We believe in inspiring our students to be the best they can be whilst having fun along the way!

All of our classes are taught by qualified and experienced staff so you can rest knowing your little star is in safe hands.

We have a variety of classes for different abilities and we are an inclusive school, believing everyone should have the chance to dance!

Examinations are taken with the ISTD and RAD examining boards and although are not compulsory are an excellent way of rewarding students for their hard work! We also have a variety of performance opportunities and have a scholarship program for gifted students.

We also have classes for adults and as of this year we are launching our Silver Swans classes. These are aimed at older learners and beginner learners and extremely good for keeping fit!

Lauren Lewis

Director

Lauren Lewis (Principal) is dual-qualified for the two most recognised dance exam boards in the UK: the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD).

As a mother of two, Lauren is committed to providing a nurturing environment where each student can thrive and develop. Smaller class sizes and involvement in continuing professional development will help ensure you child gets personalised teaching from a safe and enthusiastic teacher.

Lauren’s teaching qualifications include Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies from RAD, Diplomas in Dance Instruction and Education for Ballet and Modern with ISTD. The benefits are that your child will be taught by a dual-qualified teacher who can enter your children into recognised dance board examinations.

Lauren’s personal qualifications include a distinction in Advanced 2 Modern (the highest possible professional qualification in modern dance), Advanced 1 Ballet, Advanced 1 Tap, and a distinction in her HND in Professional Stage Dance from Dance for All in Edinburgh.

Lauren has danced professionally and choreographed in a variety of contexts including group ensembles and solo as part of Edinburgh’s Fringe. More recently she has instigated workshops for local professional dancers. This experience means that Lauren can equip aspiring dancers for a future in performance, choreography and teaching.

As well as being a dancer and teacher, Lauren is also a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, having gained a BDes in textile design. She loves combining art and creativity into teaching and school performances.

In summary, if you seek a supportive, friendly dance school with highly qualified dance teachers, who are interested in your child’s development and can combine several dance styles with an art background, we would be delighted to welcome you to Ascend Dance.
